In the episode of the film, when Ivan says that Katya is pregnant and he is asking her father, Kuznetsov permission to marry her, our protagonist is also reading some poetry. In the story “Courier” by Karen Shakhnazarov, Ivan is presenting to the professor a non famous poem of Pushkin, “A dried and smelless flower”, however in the film he is reading as if his own, one of the most famous Pushkin’s poems “the Monument”. This adjustment produces a bigger comic effect because the piece of poetry that Ivan claims his own in the film is very famous and recognizable. And yet, professor failed to recognize the poem at first.
