In one of the script versions there is a funny scene, when Bazin tries to negotiate his grade in a history class with Ivan, since his mother is the history teacher. In return he offers some special service in the vegetable store, where Bazin’s dad works (without standing in lines and with access to the freshest produce). Ivan asks if it’s a bribe, on which Bazin replies that it’s just a mutual help. Ivan admits that it won’t work with his mother, she is too principled.
