This type of dancing developed much slower in the USSR than in the Western world. Within the Soviet Union it was mostly famous in Baltic Republics, in Moscow and in the former St. Petersburg, Leningrad. After the films “Breakin’” and “Breakin’ 2— Electric Boogaloo” were released in the USSR, a lot of young people started copying the moves and tricks from the films.

The first break-parties were organized in Moscow in 1985 next to a milk cafe “U fontana” (also known as “the milk”). The first major peak in Soviet breakdancing happened after release of the Soviet films “Dances on the roof” 1985 and “Courier” 1986, where in some episodes performed the Moscow b-boys.
