Tori McCausland

Tori’s hometown is Winnetka, Illinois. She is an Art History and Spanish double major, and she hopes to apply to graduate schools this coming fall to continue learning. Her dream is to one day be a professor of Art History. The piece Tori has chosen is called Stadia II by Julie Mehretu, from 2004.

“Julie Mehretu is one of my favorite contemporary artists, and one who inspired me to become an art history major. I was originally a studio art major, and one of my assignments for a painting class was to paint something inspired by another artist. I chose Mehretu and was so intrigued by her work, and others similar to her, that I switched majors. I love how she captures the essence of urbanity in her large scale, landscape-esque pieces. Her multimedia approach is one I also like to include in my own work, and she continues to inspire me as an artist and as an academic.”
