New York Connections Trip

In fall of 2019 I attended the Piper Center’s Connections trip to New York City. I met alumni who are currently working in the performing arts field in New York City, discussed their career and life choices that brought them there, and saw live theater productions. This trip was incredibly relevant to my area of study and my individual major because I received a lot of wonderful advice pertaining to life in the arts after graduation.

Theater Involvement on Campus

Throughout my time at St Olaf I’ve been involved in theater here on campus,  through the lyric theater and theater department, as well as through the many student theater organizations.  I acted in Batboy spring 2018, Jesus Christ Superstar fall 2019, and  Mamma Mia! fall  2020. Besides acting in these productions and student produced shows, other relevant experience on campus includes choreography, publicity, and working as a stagehand. I am also a board member for Deep End Student Theater, an organization that helps produce student theater and provides workshops and gatherings.

Summer Camp Arts Instructor and Counselor

Over the summer of 2019 I was employed at Hidden Valley Camp in Freedom, Maine. As a fine arts instructor I choreographed and music directed a production of The Little Mermaid Jr., as well as taught improv classes and screenprinting. This was a valuable experience because I was able to practice skills that I love through my teaching. Even during our scheduled offtime, counselors were able to work in arts studios, and I learned a variety of new skills such as glass blowing, dulcimer making, and more. This was a vibrant artistic community where I felt my creativity was utilized everyday.
