Fine Arts Performance

The four courses in this category are focused on performance based learning in the arts. Each course included performance elements in daily classwork, homework and final examinations.

DANCE 221 Ballet ll (Spring 2019)

This course was an intermediate movement course focused on learning classical french ballet technique and performance. Ballet is one of the most prevalent dance genres incorporated into musical theater and it strongly influences body movement and positioning on stage. Daily exercises included stretching, floorwork, and completing combinations across the floor, and skills are tested through written and physical examinations. Ballet l is a prerequisite for this course.

MUSIC 162 Piano Class ll (Spring 2019)

This course builds on the skills learned in MUSIC 161 Piano Class I. Coursework involved simple keyboard patterns and technical foundations, applied music theory, harmonization and transposition, playing by ear, as well as sight reading. Piano skills are necessary to further understand music theory skills and practices. Having a firm understanding of these basics enhances my ability to teach myself and others, and increases my general musical knowledge.

THEAT 131 Acting for the Lyric Stage (Fall 2017)

Acting for the Lyric Stage is fundamental to my study of musical theater. This studio course explored acting and singing through class performances, critiques, and research. Class performances included scenes, solos, and duets, allowing me the experience of solo work and the opportunity to work with a partner. This experimental course taught the basics of voice, movement, improvisation, and characterization in musical theater performance.

DANCE 295 Carleton Dance Lab (Fall 2019)

Carleton Dance Lab explored the human body and choreography process through improvisational exercises, critiques, and workshops with guest artists. A primary part of the coursework included workshop experience with guest artist 2Fik. Our class performed on a professional stage in Minneapolis. This course continued to develop my choreography skills, awareness as a performer, and gave me an eye opening look into collaboration and production as a professional dancer/creator.
