Lineages of American Lutheran Church Bodies
The institutional organization of American Lutheranism has passed thorough many stages. Norlie’s chart shows the development of the Norwegian-American Lutheran synodical bodies. See the ELCA, Region III archives page for a simplified version and charts for several other bodies.
Most Norwegian-American Lutheran bodies joined the American Lutheran Church (1960) which merged into the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (1988). See the Association of Religious Data Archives page for this linage and others.
