欢迎大家！Welcome to my Chinese Major Distinction Portfolio!

My name is Maxwell Rubin, my Chinese name is 张敏 (zhang min). I am a
double major in Mandarin Chinese and Political Science. In 2013, I
began studying Chinese during my first year of high school at
Vistamar School in El Segundo, CA, apart of the Los Angeles
metropolitan area. Upon my enrollment at St. Olaf College, I
continued to pursue learning Chinese and expanded my studies in the
discipline.

While much of my interest and enjoyment in the Chinese language is
primarily focused on expressing thoughts/ideas/stories through
speaking and writing, St. Olaf has given me the opportunity to study
Asian history, culture, and thought, which I have gained a new
appreciation and greater understanding of Asia. In my future career,
I plan on being a lawyer and later, a politician. While I know that
having a knowledge and insight into Asian culture and history will
help me relate to more people, it is possible that my Chinese could
be utilized as a politician or government official doing business
with China.
