I was drawn to do this project because I wanted the chance to find out how St. Olaf connects to the immigration and resettlement of refugees after WWII. I was especially interested in the Churches in Exile because I am fascinated by the immensity of Soviet history and the many places it impacts, including the Baltic states. Additionally, I found the complex history of Baltic displaced persons as victims and perpetrators during the Soviet and German occupation important to how we remember who was allowed to immigrate to the U.S.
