My time so far on the Dig Site has been a fun, but valuable learning experience for me. After one of our dig days, we spoke together as a big group at the dig house, and Tim said some really insightful words about why we do the work that we do, and how it affects the people, locals that are here. We are foreigners excavating and learning THEIR history, and for us to be able to do that requires a lot of trust from the local people. I don’t want to forget that. Being and doing what we do is a privilege, and I am eternally grateful for that.

At first, the work was hard. I didn’t bring nearly enough water and finished it in the first hour. It was also hard to make a fist with my hands and fingers too, and by the end of the day, I was exhausted; but since that first day, there has been so much learning in the field, and the things that I have learned has made it awesome to be out there, and now, I look forward to everyday in the field. Abbey has been a huge help as our supervisor for site 8B, and without her, we would not be where we are. The people and students on this trip are awesome, and I couldn’t ask for a better group! You can adapt to new experiences and changes in your life, and that’s what we’re doing right now, but it wouldn’t be possible if I weren’t surrounded by such awesome and caring people.
