1. The part of Antiochia ad Cragum that I’m most excited to see is the totally basic, everyday parts of the town. My favorite part of the whole reading list by far was finding out that archaeologists found 150+ coins and some random woman’s lost earring at the bottom of the pool at the bath complex. I personally really love things like that — for some reason I’m less interested in the massive monumental architecture and grandiose buildings commissioned by emperors and such than in everyday artifacts left behind by people who we’ll never ever know. I feel like the emperors and “important figures” of history get enough attention already, so I like to give attention to the ordinary people. For me, getting a glimpse into their lives is more impactful and emotional than seeing inscriptions and monuments.
  2. The thing I’m most excited for during the first day in Gazipasa is the food! I love Mediterranean and Middle Eastern food so much, and after traveling and going from airport Starbucks to airport Starbucks it will be so nice to have an actual meal. I also really would like to see the Mediterranean Sea for the first time ever!
