With week 2 almost at a close, I think my experiences so far in Gazipaşa have been both revealing and rewarding. On a personal level, I think the (sometimes) monotonous college lifestyle can make work seem a chore, and the labor we have done on the acropolis has put into perspective how classwork might be more interesting than hauling rocks for hours on end.
That’s not to say that our work is uninteresting. On the contrary even in hauling what appears to be rubble from an area we are excavating, crucial clues can be found both in what we slowly reveal and in the small finds we dig up. Slowly, more of what was once ancient and medieval Antiochia is revealing itself to us and I could not be more excited.
Hopefully next week will be just as exciting as this one.
