I arrived in Gazipaşa on Sunday, after having spent a few days in Turkey before hand. On Monday, we had our first day of work. We pulled weeds. Nothing but weeding. I was literally dripping sweat, but other than the constant dampness and the pain in my limbs, I was feeling fine! Then, at around 1 am that night, I woke up with that feeling that something’s just not right. I lay in bed, trying to will the queasiness away, but that did nothing. I threw up the night after my first day at the dig. I woke up the next morning feeling funky, not terrible but just not right. I went to the dig anyway but a few hours in, the queasiness began again. This time it was at the Depot where I threw up. It was the second day of digging and I was sitting at the lunch table with my head in my hands, trying to keep my water down. Needless to say, it wasn’t the most glorious of starts.

After a day of rest involving many texts with my parents, my stomach seems to have decided that it’s okay to keep food down. That it won’t poison me. We just finished the fourth day of digging and my second full day at the site. I’m feeling much better. I knew I would get sick at least once while here, though I never guessed it would be so early on. Here’s hoping it doesn’t happen again.
