Along with digging in the trenches, John Dunne and I have been conducting CURI research learning the best tactics for taking and processing photos in the archaeological field. So far this has included taking photos of coins and using RTI–an imaging software–to make the finer, harder to see details become clearer. We’ve also been taking pictures of our trenches everyday so we can (if all goes according to plan!) create 3D versions of them back at Olaf. But today we did something completely different–we shot video! In its heyday there was a column-lined street at the site, and the team decided to erect a column to get an idea of what it looked like. It was our job to document the column raising, and it was an incredible experience knowing that the last time the column stood was well over 1,000 years ago.
