4. Images and Metaphors

This lesson will use Greta’s writing as an example to teach you how to focus your writing and influence how your audience feels about your topic by incorporating a central image or metaphor.

After watching the video and writing your two practice sentences, return to your main topic and write a paragraph to go with your “gut claim” that incorporates a central metaphor.

 

Here are some examples:

  • We can compare high school students’ brains to plants. They have a lot of potential to grow and thrive, but they need to be in the right environment …
  • Those who want to increase the minimum wage too fast are reckless drivers. They think they are rushing to save our economy, but they could do real damage if they don’t stop to consider the consequences …
