Mao Zedong with the people of Jinggangshan. On the left, “On once again climbing Jinggangshan, to the tune of shuidiao getou”. Jinggangshan was Mao’s first revolutionary base. On the right, “A dialogue between two birds, to the tune of niannujiao”. These two poems were the last of Mao’s poems to be published, appearing in January, 1976. Mao died in September 1976.
