Formatted like a traditional ink-on-paper landscape painting with cliffs, temples, and trees dominating the image while man’s presence in the form now of power lines, factory smokestacks, and bridges hides in the valley. Yan’an was a Communist enclave during the civil war later mythologized. This work was created in preparation for a national exhibition celebrating communist ideals.
