About The Exhibition

Influential Identities: Global Women Artists aims to highlight the incredible talents of BIPOC, female-identifying artists from all over the world. Focusing on issues of gender identity, culture, and access, this virtual exhibition showcases the impact that these women artists have had on the art world — an impact that has been obscured by white supremacist and patriarchal society. Graduating Art History majors selected these works from the Flaten Art Museum Collection, and, together, curated this exhibition to showcase a diverse array of both media and subjects, while also coming together to form a feminist and decolonial postion of change and justice.

Special thanks to our art history faculty mentors Dr. Hannah Ryan and Dr. Christina Spiker.

Flaten Art Museum Collection

Lasting Legacy is an ongoing series that puts graduating St. Olaf art history majors in contact with objects from the Flaten Art Museum’s collection. As students select and analyze a work of art, they offer fresh perspectives on objects from various cultures, eras, and media.
