BIOGRAPHY

Fabricio Orellana is a Minneapolis-based Photographer, Athlete, and Scholar.

His photography career started in his Junior year of high school when he enrolled in a photography class with Ms. Honeywell at Columbia Heights High School. He was really inspired by the Energy Ms.Honeywell brought to the classroom and her quote, “Taking a photo is like buying groceries, and editing is cooking the food”. Due to his new photography passion, he enrolled in AP (Advanced Placement) Arts and got a score of 4 and an “Excellent” award from the MSHSL (Minnesota State High School League).

In the Summer of 2024, with encouragement from the Mayor of Columbia Heights, Amáda Márquez Simula. He hosted his first Photography Art Show that explored the question “When do we Belong?” with the support of people of Columbia Heights with donations of frames and other artists.

Currently a Junior at St. Olaf College living on campus in Northfield, he is double majoring in Quantitative Economics and Sociology/Antrophology intending to work in local government.

At St. Olaf, he studied Beginner and Intermediate photography classes and got a lot of experience with analog film cameras, DSLR cameras, the darkroom, and cyanotypes. Fabricio is also one of the founders and treasurer of Ole’s Photography club.  He has done professional photoshoots for students and projects that can be found on this page.

Outside of the classroom he is involved in various extracurricular activities like serving as the Deputy Secretary of Finance for SGA (Student Government Association), hosting a spanish speaking Radio show on KSTO called “Buenas Noches” this is where he has invited international students from Spain, Guatemala, Peru and others to talk about music, culture, social issues and the life as a Latino in the US and he’s also a Math and Spanish tutor.
