Art 343 Senior Project: ROTUS

After the loss of my father a year ago, I struggled to experience the depth of grief, and being in a pandemic, had few ways to connect and give to others around me. Inspired by my fathers love for motorcycles, I created the display font ROTUS, and paired it with an installation in the Flaten Art Museum of St. Olaf College.

Typography as an art form is inescapable in our daily lives, yet we are so accustomed to consuming letters as tiny functional signifiers, with no room to appreciate their character, craft, or form. Playing with scale and interactivity, my installation approach invites any audience to redefine the way type is seen, as well as create a platform to respond to my loss by creating more life through creativity and connection. I encouraged visitors to remove a poster for themselves, and experience how their input can change and deepen the art in front of them.

More information and the ROTUS font itself can be found below:

Art 236 ACE Project: Healthfinders

During ART 236 Graphic Design, as a class our final project involved an Active Civic Engagement (ACE) component in collaboration with some local organizations. For my team, we created a capital campaign for Healthfinders, a local Minnesota healthcare organization focused on providing quality and accessible care to all. The campaign focussed on raising awareness of Healthfinders, as well as bringing clarity to their organization to avoid any community misconceptions. Our team created these posters for the campaign, which were then used by Healthfinders in their office, and as advertisements.

OC 200: Social Entrepreneurship Portfolio Website

Studying abroad in Copenhagen Denmark, I studied graphic design, as well as elective classes such as Social Entrepreneurship. This course explored the social impact business and entrepreneurship can bring to society. This course encouraged me to understand the impact my role as a freelance designer can have, and challenged me to deepen my aspirations for practical social growth. For my final, I built an online portfolio of all of my work and studies in the class.
