Presentation by Professor Emily Carroll (Nursing)

Professor Carroll has many years of experience being involved in community health work at HealthFinders Collaborative as a provider and in a leadership role. She will be presenting on harm reduction in rural communities affected by opioid use disorder. She will share the experiences of HealthFinders clinics implementing a low-barrier, low-threshold clinic for medications for Opioid Use Disorder as well as a syringe services program. Furthermore, she will explore how insurance, legal and cultural (specifically stigma) factors affect the treatment of substance use disorders.

Jean Porterfield, Associate Professor of Biology and Director of Biomedical Studies at St. Olaf College, was invited to be the inaugural speaker in this new series.
She delivered the First Annual Blue Key Note Address on May 10, 2011, 7:00 to 8:00 p.m., in Viking Theater.
