Finals are underway. We have had our last on campus orientation session: checking out iPads, learning how to make optimal use of the apps, being reminded about plug adaptors, passwords, and the like. Those of us in Northfield saw Matt and he saw us. Our next gathering will be, partially at MSP, and completely in Amsterdam. All this means that our journey is 
taking on an increasing reality, less an idea and more a certainty. Preparations are more tangible. Soon lists will be transformed into piles of clothing, papers, and various paraphernalia of travel. I must be sure to count my teabags, scan my passport and credit cards, make sure my family has my contact information, memorize the conversion rate….the list grows, until the day that we depart…ready or not.
Ready or not evokes my usual travel two-step: equal parts spirit of adventure and common sense.
