The Clothesline Project is a non-governmental association which started a movement of hanging clothing, usually t-shirts with stories written out of survivors of violence or sexual assault. It aims to bring voices to those unheard, and awareness to those who have experience violence. Now groups across the nation partake in the project.
At St. Olaf College, we partake in the movement by hanging t-shirts with the stories from survivors of assault in our own community. These t-shirts usually hang in the hallways of Buntrock on the way to Boe Chapel or Rolvaag Library to honor the strength of survivors and to break the silence that surrounds their experience.
If you or a friend ever want to share their story, they can send an email or make an appointment to talk to an advocate. Additionally, they can fill out an anonymous form released annually around October, which is Domestic Violence Awareness month and when the Clothesline Project takes place.
