Conference attendees on Friday, June 20, will enjoy a special evening of tacos, with a side of Nordic folk music.

Performing that evening is the duo lynx lynx — the result of two Scandinavian transplants combining musical forces in the Midwest. Performances by Vidar Skrede (Norway) and Patrik Ahlberg (Sweden) include fiddles, Hardanger fiddles, guitars, and even a mandolin. Their lively sets are filled with their own original tunes and traditional music from their homelands. Learn more at lynxlynxmusic.com.

Why tacos? It’s a nod to Northfield’s large Latino immigrant population. Additionally, eating tacos on Fridays is a Norwegian tradition known as Taco fredag. Tacos have become an extremely popular staple of contemporary Norwegian cuisine and a good example of the shifts in national food identity. While 45% of Norwegians eat fårikål, Norway’s official national dish one time a year, 34% of Norwegians reported eating tacos once a month in 2024.

Dinner begins at 6.30, with the concert at 7. In addition to the taco buffet, a cash bar with beer, wine, and margaritas will be available. After the concert, we’ll step outdoors to enjoy a variety of Mexican desserts and a bonfire on Buntrock Plaza.

Due to campus alcohol regulations, this evening’s events are exclusively for full conference attendees and those registered for the all-day Friday option.
Kindly note that the dinner, concert, and dessert reception are not included in the commuter option, and are not available as add-ons.

A la carte registration for Friday includes all conference sessions, lunch in Stav Hall, coffee breaks, an afternoon reception, dinner and concert, and dessert.
The cost for the day is $130.  To attend,
