is thrilled to announce that we are currently accepting submissions for the 103rd edition of our annual spring print publication.&nbsp;We invite you to share your artistic talents with us in all mediums&nbsp;including (but not limited to) poetry, short stories, studio artwork, music, dance, and more. As an organization, we continue to strive to push the boundaries of art. We hope you are up for the task.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><em>Unpublishable!: Works that Refuse the Page<\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>For our upcoming gallery show, <em>Unpublishable! Works that Refuse the Page<\/em>, we are seeking works that do just that: resist the confines of the printed page, formally, materially, and conceptually. We invite submissions in both traditional and non-traditional media, including (though not limited to) sculpture, sound, installation, performance, video, digital practices, and intermedia.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To refuse the page is to question the authority of the fixed form, whether that be aesthetic or political. In an era marked by institutional unrest, we invite artists to consider how art-making can function as critique and transformation. How might your work move beyond documentation and instead demand encounter? How might it unsettle space, authorship, or audience? How might it reimagine the structures that attempt to contain it?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Submission Criteria<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Submitting a Series of Works (of any medium)&nbsp;<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The number of pieces in a series counts as the number of total submissions. For example, a series containing three separate photographs counts as three submissions. If you have questions about a specific piece counting as a series, please contact <a href=\"mailto:quarry-exec@stolaf.edu\">quarry-exec@stolaf.edu<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Please submit pieces of a series individually. Please format files as TITLE_LASTFIRSTNAME_SUBMISSION#. Pieces with long titles may be shortened in the file name. (e.g., ALLQUIET_BERGEREDWARD_2).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If a piece has been published elsewhere previously, it may be submitted. However, a piece <strong>may not<\/strong> be republished to <em>The Quarry<\/em>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If applicable, please include trigger and content warnings. Please also consider that, while we are able to publish graphic content, pieces that seek to harm, deface, and\/or promote hate towards any person or group of people will not be considered for publication.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Please be aware that <em>The Quarry<\/em> will not accept any submissions either completely or partially generated using AI. While there are innumerable arguments informing our magazine\u2019s stance against AI, most fundamental is its conflict with our mission to provide space for St. Olaf student voices and artwork. <strong>Generation is not creation<\/strong>; the inputting of a prompt is not tantamount to authorship, nor is the resulting product \u201cartwork.\u201d For these reasons (and many more), <em>The Quarry<\/em> will not publish AI-generated text or images.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Literary Submissions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The Quarry <\/em>accepts works of prose and poetry in any genre (fiction, creative nonfiction, essays, poetry, experimental works, etc.). Preferred file types of text include:<strong>&nbsp;.txt, .docx, .pdf, .csv, and .html.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Prose (Fiction, Nonfiction, Essays)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Maximum of 1,000 words (single-spaced, 12-point, Times New Roman font) per story.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Poetry<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Maximum of 60 lines (single-spaced, 12-point, Times New Roman font) per poem.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Art and Performance Submissions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The Quarry <\/em>is able to accept works of art across all mediums and formats. Please format files as TITLE_LASTFIRSTNAME_SUBMISSION#). Pieces with long titles may be shortened in the file name. (e.g., ALLQUIET_BERGEREDWARD_2). Preferred file types include: <strong>.pdf, .jpg, .png, .wav, .mp3, .mov<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>2D Art (Photography, paintings, digital art, collages, etc.)&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Please include artwork dimensions (height x width) and specific medium(s) with your submission (e.g., B&amp;W film photography, gouache painting, digital drawing, etc.).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ensure all submissions are, at minimum, at 300 DPI in order to ensure resolution and quality for printing or gallery reproduction. (This can be done with the printers available on campus.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Music, Film, and Performance<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Please submit a high-resolution video, file, or link to your work using an <strong>.mp4 or .mov file, Vimeo link, or YouTube link.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Please limit time-based submissions to under 5 minutes in duration. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you are submitting a piece that has an auditory aspect (lyrics, dialogue, etc.), please consider adding closed captions or attaching a script with your work.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Other Submissions<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>We are looking to publish <strong>all types <\/strong>of artistic work.
