I then subsequently co-presented a <a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/cila\/\">CILA<\/a> workshop on \u201cBuilding Community in an Online Environment\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2021: Critical Global Learning Community of Practice organized by the Smith Center for Global Engagement\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><a style=\"color: #ffffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/curi\/\">Collaborative Undergraduate Research and Inquiry (CURI)<\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>CURI projects have allowed me to delve deeper into topics of with my students and collaborate with peers and community members. Here is a list of those projects:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2009-10: \u201c<span style=\"color: #f6c65b;\"><a style=\"color: #f6c65b;\" href=\"https:\/\/pages.stolaf.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/892\/2016\/09\/Evaluation-of-the-2010-Vintage-Band-Festival.pdf\">Best practices in arts event management<\/a><\/span><em>\u201d<\/em> in collaboration with Paul Neimisto with Katie Truax \u201911 and Carly Hedlin \u201911.<\/li>\n<li>2011-12: <span style=\"color: #f6c65b;\"><a style=\"color: #f6c65b;\" href=\"https:\/\/pages.stolaf.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/892\/2016\/09\/Final-Report.pdf\">\u201cEconomic Impact of the Arts in Northfield\u201d<\/a><\/span> with Bob Kelly \u201912 and Ally Lynne \u201912. I subsequently\u00a0presented a poster \u201cEconomic Impact of the Arts in Northfield\u201d at the Imagining America National conference: Linked Fates and Futures: Communities and Campuses as Equitable Partners? Oct. &#8217;12<\/li>\n<li>2015-16:\u00a0 \u201c<em>Ecotourism in Japan<\/em>\u201d in collaboration with Katherine Tegtmeyer Pak with support from the Luce\/LIASE grant with Iris Burbank \u201918, Anders Cologne \u201917,\u00a0 Caitlin Connell \u201917, Robby Hanson \u201918 and Chenchen Xu \u201917. A <span style=\"color: #f6c65b;\"><a style=\"color: #f6c65b;\" href=\"https:\/\/pages.stolaf.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/892\/2016\/09\/Kitakata-Area-Marketing-Recommendations-FINAL.pdf\">Marketing Plan<\/a><\/span> was shared with our Japanese community partners.<\/li>\n<li>2017-2020: \u201c<span style=\"color: #ffcc00;\"><a style=\"color: #ffcc00;\" href=\"https:\/\/pages.stolaf.edu\/sian\/research\/study-abroad\/\">Developing entrepreneurial skills in students to enhance study abroad and internship experiences<\/a><\/span>\u201d with Morgan May \u201919 and Tanya Samiliv \u201920. The findings can be found on the &#8220;expertise&#8221; pages of this website.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #99cc00;\"><em>Service<\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">My leadership at the college and my collaborations demonstrate the investment and role I play in the college\u2019s future. As a result, I have regularly asked to present workshops for our faculty through our CILA program. The topics have included community-based research, infusing creativity in the classroom, organizational storytelling, and design thinking.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Finally, I have served on a wide variety of campus committees: Faculty Life Committee, Media Studies Advisory Committee, Academic Civic Engagement Advisory Committee, Marketing and Communications Editorial Advisory Board, the Institute for Freedom and Community Director\u2019s Council, and the Curriculum Committee<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=&#8221;1_4&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.16&#8243; custom_padding=&#8221;|||&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; custom_padding__hover=&#8221;|||&#8221;][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;Text&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.22.2&#8243; background_size=&#8221;initial&#8221; background_position=&#8221;top_left&#8221; background_repeat=&#8221;repeat&#8221; use_border_color=&#8221;off&#8221; border_color=&#8221;#ffffff&#8221; border_style=&#8221;solid&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><em>&#8220;Through her dynamic service, wide-ranging life experience, and skilled teaching and mentoring Sian Christie inspires students, staff and faculty to reach for their best selves. By simply working hard and admitting she does not have all the answers, Sian is able to build learning communities. Students and faculty are drawn to collaborate with her. In the 2015-16 Academic Year I saw this first-hand as I worked with her and Jennifer Kwon Dobbs to develop and team-teach the Creative Learning Community \u201cThe Soul of Stuff.\u201d There, as I came to know Sian more deeply as a colleague, I saw many creative ways in which she was able to make transparent her journey as a learner. I suppose that is what I value most about having her in our community: she is great to learn with.
