Welcome, Φιλαί

Philosophia is a St. Olaf organization dedicated to promoting diversity in the field of philosophy.

Since women and minorities are marginally underrepresented in the field of philosophy, we aim to encourage discussion between current and potential philosophy majors on our campus, to disseminate information and resources about graduate school, institutes, etc, to draw general awareness to the issue of underrepresentation of women and minorities in philosophy, and to connect with the greater community of diverse philosophers working in academia now.

Philosophia meets bi-monthly in the evenings at 7 pm, in the philosophy commons. We have discussions based around questions and concepts that arise from the works of both ancient and contemporary minority philosophers. Topics may include feminist issues, critical race theory, queer theory, phenomenology, justice, social epistemology, or whatever you find to be interesting and important.

On this website you will find:

  • Meeting dates, times, and minutes of past meetings
  • Reading list
  • St. Olaf philosophy events
  • Diversity and inclusivity in philosophy resources
