Exploring Nature Journaling

Exploring Nature Journaling

Ashley Bozman

Students from North Lakes Academy participated in Osprey Wilds Environmental Learning Centers' "Climate change: Ways of knowing" class on Oct. 4th, 2022. This class explores how knowledge is shared and starts with introducing students to milkweed via nature journaling! Students explore what makes a common milkweed plant unique using their observation skills, and are asked to record any of the characteristics they observe, connections they make, and questions they wonder on some lined paper. Students then are asked to share what they observed with the class and we build our collective knowledge about how to identify common milkweed, what's a common characteristic and what might be a sign of damage or sickness. Students are then able to keep their journal entries or turn them in to become a part of the official record or milkweed that day. The submissions below are a result of that! Please enjoy!
