My most recent book (Fortress Press, December 2017) is:
\nA Documentary History of Lutheranism
\n<\/strong>Volume one covers the chronological period from Luther\u2019s first calls for reform to the development of Lutheran Orthodoxy and Pietism during the seventeenth century.\u00a0 Volume two (with Mark Granquist as co-editor) analyzes the evolution of post-Enlightenment Lutheranism as it spread to all the regions of the world.\u00a0 Many of the primary source texts are translated into English here for the first time.\u00a0 Each chapter begins with an essay that provides additional historical background and offers contextual integration for the following primary source selections.\u00a0 Some chapters focus on developments in thought, others on descriptions of historical events or the evolution of religious institutions

Seventeenth Century Lutheran Meditations and Hymns<\/strong> in the Classics of Western Spirituality series. (Paulist Press, 2011) includes\u00a0the full text of Gerhard’s Sacred Meditations (newly translated from Latin), excerpts from the practical spiritual writings of Heinrich Muller and Christian Scriver (originally written in German) as well as a selection of seventeenth century Lutheran hymns.<\/p>\n
