On Arrival Day, Tuesday, September 1st, all international students will be picked up from the airport by a school arranged bus. Depending on the individual arrival times students will wait at the designated location for whichever round of pick-ups is next. You will receive an email in August with further instructions on your time and place of pick-up.

Transportation to and from the airport after your initial arrival:

Students can purchase a Northfield Lines ticket online. Please ask for directions at the airport information desk to find the Green Ramp at Terminal 1 where the bus will pick you up. Your destination will be St. Olaf College Buntrock Commons. This same bus service can be used to travel to the Twin Cities (Minneapolis and St. Paul). The most popular destination for students is the Mall of America (M.O.A).

When on campus:

During the school year and some school breaks the Express line will be available to all students. This mode of transportation is free to both St. Olaf and Carleton students as long as you have your student ID. Otherwise, you will incur a $1.25 fee for every ride that should be paid upfront. The Express takes you to multiple destinations around Northfield. You can find a copy of the schedule on their website or get a pamphlet from the shelf next to the Buntrock front desk.

During school breaks the blue line and red lines (Haiwathaland Transit) are available. Both lines are free to students who have their student IDs with them. Students should take the blue line to City Hall and connect to the red line if need be.

For the individuals who have experience cycling, students can check out school bicycles at the Library circulation desk. The process is free but there is a time limit to the duration of use. Make sure to always have your student ID handy. Rental bikes are not available during winter.

Individuals with a valid U.S driving license can sign up for enterprise rental cars. You do not need to be 21 years of age to sign up, which is a plus considering that most car rentals in the U.S. have that requirement. After you sign up, you choose the date and time you want to rent the car. Make sure to return it on time. If you find that you will not make it in the time you had previously stated, you can add 15 more minutes of rental.

For more information about transportation search for the word transportation on the school website.

FOR FALL 2020: due to the pandemic, there might be some changes in the schedules, procedures, and the way that the busses or other transportation are run.
