SOAN 246, LGBTQA Lives and Issues, is being offered at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota during the spring semester of 2015 by visiting instructor Marcel LaFlamme. You can view the syllabus here.
One element of the course involves examining how changing communication technologies constitute new LGBTQA publics and, at the same time, support new forms of scholarship. A case in point, this public blog allows St. Olaf students to write for an audience beyond their instructor, but it also carries with it the risks (and pleasures) of visibility and exposure. Thinking about this tension and others like it is part of the course’s aim.
