About Grayson’s Music<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

From a young age, Grayson Chan\u2019s musical journey has been deeply intertwined with his faith, nurtured by his upbringing in the Salvation Army church. Now a Music and Studio Arts student at St. Olaf College, the euphonium player from Hong Kong began learning hymns by ear at just 10 years old, channeling his love for classic tunes into a craft devoted to praising and worshipping God. Under the mentorship of the Hong Kong government\u2019s Music Office and Salvation Army brass bands, Grayson\u2019s grassroots foundation in music flourished, leading to opportunities such as serving as principal euphonium of the Music Office Youth Brass Band and performing in masterclasses with euphonium virtuoso Steven Mead at the age of 15.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Grayson\u2019s musical path has been profoundly shaped by cultural fusion. He spent an exchange year in Switzerland, playing with local Salvation Army brass bands and sharing his musical heritage while immersing himself in their traditions. As a member of the St. Olaf Band, he has traveled internationally, most recently performing in Japan, where he deepened his understanding of the universal connections music can foster. Dr. Timothy Mahr, former director and professor emeritus of the St. Olaf Band, describes Grayson as a \u201ccrazy\u201d musician\u2014a nod to his passionate commitment, dynamic stage presence, and unrelenting pursuit of excellence.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now principal euphonium of the St. Olaf Band, Grayson leads with a blend of technical precision and heartfelt emotion, inspiring peers and audiences alike. Whether performing with his euphonium section, exploring the intersection of music and art, or sharing his faith through his lyrical and illustrative sound, Grayson\u2019s devotion to his craft shines through. He remains steadfast in his mission to glorify God through music, using every note to connect across cultures and inspire others. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
