About This Project

Two Saint Olaf Courses (ENGL 385 and WMGST 121) created collaborative projects to propose a "Feminist Conversations" program at their college. This website captures their intellectual work towards the end of promotion feminist conversations on campus.

English 385: Feminist Rhetorics (Interim 2020)

students examine how women and gender minorities have contributed to the history of oratory and writing, even though they are often left out or erased from those histories, especially of those of ancient Greece and Rome. After reading about the contested histories of rhetoric, students will examine how women and gender minorities have contributed to the US rhetorical tradition, looking specifically at the 19th century and how Black and Indigenous women wrote and spoke at a time of settler colonialism and racism.

Women's and Gender Studies 121 (Spring 2020)

The purpose of this course is to introduce students to interdisciplinary feminist scholarship, which investigates gendered inequalities and how they are maintained and confronted. This course introduces students to the concepts of gender and sex as categories of analysis. It is designed for students who seek a fuller understanding of themselves as gendered people—all genders are encouraged to participate!
