This major originated as a response to the lack of representation in the Theater and Dance departments at St. Olaf. It was important to me to create a major that allowed me both as a performer and an ally, to create spaces in the performing arts for immigrants, people of color, and LGBTQ+ individuals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The major simultaneously examines the interactions between identity and inclusivity. To do so, there are three areas of study: 1) the body and the mind, 2) the self, and 3) the community. An education in the Performing Arts should be accessible to all, regardless of their complex identity. However, this is limited by enforced systems of oppression, which need to be challenged by cultivating inclusivity \u2014 an intersectional atmosphere where diverse identities are celebrated. Therefore, to understand how identity and inclusivity relate in the performing arts, it is relevant for me to learn the artistic and social components that influence these interactions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Esta carrera naci\u00f3 como respuesta a la falta de representaci\u00f3n en los departamentos de Teatro y Danza de St. Olaf.
