WRI Requirement

Course Guidelines:

“A Writing in Context course helps students write effective prose in a particular community of knowledge: My senior project will include a great deal of research, both self-collected and those collected and analyzed by professionals in their respective fields. This data will be interpreted and written about in abstracts to be turned in to my advisor and uploaded to my portfolio. Each abstract will allow me to reinterpret the findings as a means for me to determine the relevance to my main argument. If I find that the research data does not support my research goals, I will make note of it for limitations of my project. Doing so will require me to write using “effective prose” to engage the academic and cultural articles around different design concepts to formulate and solidify my own thinking.

“A Writing in Context course incorporates writing as a principal and integral part of learning:” Writing will be a key means to understand my research data. I will be using these writings to contribute to a larger research document that will serve as half of my final capstone project. I will be completing this research document in a series of sections that will be submitted to my advisor as well as uploaded to my portfolio periodically until a final draft is compiled and edited. I will use this method of writing and submission as a means to work through my own ideas by adding more and more outside resources and experience with the project.

“A Writing in Context course must provide instruction in writing and must require students to revise their work in response to instructor feedback:” My work will be regularly submitted to my advisor in the form of article abstracts and scaffolded parts of the research project, including the introduction, various main body sections, and conclusion. This will allow me to get feedback on to clarify and improve my writing as well as allow for discussions on how the research is adding to, limiting, and molding my final project. I also plan to set up a reoccurring meeting with the Writing Desk and my research librarian in order for me to reach people with different academic backgrounds for suggested edits and comments.
