Work Towards Major

Here you will find some of the work I did in my classes that were guided by my individual major. Because there is not a pre-existing Public Health major, I was able to redirect some of my related coursework to fit into my major.

Telehealth: https://evamknee.wixsite.com/telehealth

This project was a research project about the benefits of telehealth in rural America. I specifically researched the affects on mental health, however there is additional reading about affects on opioid addictions, teens pregnancies, etc

Health Equality Index: https://spark.adobe.com/page/vxUxN3JZ77jFS/

This project was one in which I focused on the feminist voice in healthcare. Specifically, I was research the Health Equality Index and the treatment of LGBTQI+ patients in American Healthcare. I analyzed not only the work of the organization, but ways in which the organization uses a feminist rhetoric to portray their work.

Ayurveda: https://docs.google.com/document/d/16yeGxe_i55lyXQpGn5toziNhBVoQJybXpfaEaN2e5xY/edit?usp=sharing

This is an essay about a non-biomedicine, but a medicine called Ayurveda. I talk about the beliefs and benefits that surround Ayurveda and how they can fit into the western medicine we are so accustomed to.

Ethics: https://docs.google.com/document/d/133iIIUaJQOxFjrrpl2zH-TuvlBid5rFJR9zLXqlFO3E/edit?usp=sharing

This essay was written for my biomedical ethics class, so it makes sense that I am discussing ethics. I analyze the “slippery slope” theory of ethics and how philosopher, Peter Singer, frequently uses the slippery slope theory when talking about healthcare policies.

Op-Ed: https: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ufpGca_rgVgvEPCWGkMEXPupqW7_pCaekkVujn3E-_U/edit?usp=sharing

This is an opinion-editorial I submitted to the Star Tribune as part of my “Fronteirs of Aging” class. The op-ed brings to light the issue of elderly fraud and how companies and individuals take advantage of vulnerable communities.

Poverty Simulation Research

I have been working on a Poverty Simulation research team throughout my senior year. Our research required us to apply for IRB approval, which was a learning process within itself. We hosted a poverty simulation for junior and senior nursing and social work majors. We were comparing pre and post simulation conceptions of poverty, and we had some qualitative questions about their experience. We have now been analyzing our data and are in the process of writing our article for publication.
