Bridge Crossings Event Series
Welcome to Bridge Crossings, a series of professional development events for faculty, staff, and students at St. Olaf College and Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota. Organized by staff in IT and the Libraries from both colleges, these events focus on providing sustained and integrated support for those who are incorporating digital technologies into their teaching, learning, and research. Bridge Crossings is part of the four-year, Mellon project “Broadening the Bridge: Leading Carleton and St. Olaf into a More Collaborative Future.”
Faculty, staff, and students from both colleges are invited to attend these events during Fall 2014:
- Learning Communities: Digital Research and Teaching Across the Curriculum
These four-session Learning Communities are discussion-based with participants and invited guests sharing their experiences, rather than an instructor-led workshop or class. Carleton and St. Olaf will be running complementary sessions with St. Olaf sessions focusing on digital teaching and research practices through the lens of a particular discipline and its common interdisciplinary connections, while Carleton sessions will focus on topics and questions that cross disciplinary boundaries.
Thursdays, 12:50-1:45 p.m.: Sept. 11, Oct. 9, Oct. 23, Nov. 13 (Rolvaag Memorial Library 355, St. Olaf College
Fridays, 11:50-12:45 p.m.: Sept. 12, Oct. 10, Oct. 24, Nov 14 (Rolvaag Memorial Library 355, St. Olaf College)
Wednesdays, 12:30-1:30 p.m. (Gould Library 344, Carleton College)
- Joint Community of Practice: DigiFridays – Doing Digital Scholarship
Each of these four, informal session will be managed by the faculty and staff participants as they show one another their projects, solicit feedback and advice from their colleagues, develop new skills, and get to know others with similar interests. IT and Library staff will also be available to provide demonstrations and assistance when needed.
Fridays, 3:00-4:30 p.m.: Sept. 19, Oct. 17, Nov. 7, Nov. 21 (Rolvaag Memorial Library 477, St. Olaf College)
- Joint Digital Scholarship Student Intern Retreat
This four-hour training session for Carleton Digital Humanities Associates and the St. Olaf Digital Scholarship Interns will focus on analyzing digital scholarship projects and establishing collaborative partnerships with faculty, staff, and other students.
