I would tell the employer about all of the background information regarding the dig site, the time period it was active and who lived here. I would talk about how it was an internship through school and we had a fairly small team that we came with. I would explain the work as difficult labor but very rewarding. We spent four weeks in the Mediterranean sun using tools of all sizes. I have enjoyed the work here and it has been very insightful to be able to be in another part of the world and experience another culture so different from mine. It has also been very eye opening to see how people from here view the United States and what their ideas of my culture are like.
I have become very familiar with tools and like the trowels and pickaxes. I have picked up on some problem solving, like creating my own ramps for wheelbarrows to get them in and out of precarious positions. I have learned how to pace myself and listen to my body and how to best communicate my needs with my colleagues. I have learned how to best divide and conquer jobs so that way we are moving at optimal efficiency and spreading out an equal work load that best suits everyone’s skillsets.
I have found that most people are extremely approachable and will have a conversation with you if you seek it out. If you show interest in someone and their life they will more often than not be more than happy to share their experiences and stories with you. I have also found that it never hurts to share your ideas. Even if something seems silly there’s a chance you have thought of the most optimal way to be spending your time, efforts or resources. As your own person, you may also have had ideas that even if they seem mundane to you could be very helpful and completely different from what others are thinking.<\/p>\r\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
