I honestly have no idea what we can expect to see or find, and I am excited to explore the site and gain an understanding of what time period we can expect to find the most archaeological evidence of and why. I am very interested in getting to see a glimpse of what life during this period was like in general. The ability to peer into an ancient society where it once lay is not an experience available to everyone, and I am really looking forward to this especially rare opportunity that will allow me to understand history in a hands-on way. I know that we can expect to find a surplus of pottery, and attempting to piece these sherds back together and uncover whatever motifs covered the ceramics is something I also really look forward to. I strive to begin to understand the structures and objects that were once used daily in Gazipaşa and piece together the meaning of an object not seen for ages.

I found the concept of polis in Ancient Greece to be one of the most interesting in the readings. The complicated question of when and where these poleis originated was fascinating to me because we will never truly know. It was so interesting how the meaning of the word polis could also change based on its context, further complicating the implications of a concept that was once obvious to the ancient Greeks. I want to further explore this concept in relation to our site because I am interested in linguistics, and I found it fascinating that one word could hold so much meaning, discussion, and historical significance. In general, I want to explore as much of the site and soak up as much information as possible. When else does an opportunity like this present itself? Exploring the ancient and modern history of Gazipaşa in conversation with each other will reveal so much to me about how progress continues, changes, and fluctuates for thousands of years.

Tourism and archaeology should always be thought of in conversation with ethics. As an archaeologist, my role is to uncover artifacts with care, safety, and respect constantly in mind. I want my research to serve anyone searching for more information about Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome, or the area of Gazipaşa. I am doing this work for anyone and everyone, in a way. I want to complete this research in hopes of contributing additional information necessary to forming new hypotheses, inferences, and revelations about Antiochia ad Cragum. To me, the most important part of this archaeological work is maintaining ethics and respect for the country hosting whatever artifacts or structures we may find. No single person is entitled to knowledge of any kind, and in this internship I hope to complete my work with the constant respect that both the ancient settlement and modern-day country and its residents deserve.

In preparation for our archaeological work at Antiochia ad Cragum, I am most interested in seeing and identifying the structures and household objects that we will be excavating.
